Naples
Naples was been founded between the 7th and 6th centuries BC by the Greeks and was named Neapolis, which means new city.
The historic center of Naples was selected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is one of the biggest historical city center in the world, with 448 historical and monumental churches, the highest number in the world for one single city.

PRELIMINARY PROGRAM
9.30 a.m. | Departure from Conference Center Terminal (Symposium headquarters) by private shuttle bus |
10.00 a.m. | Guided sightseeing tour A walk along the Decumano called Spaccanapoli through noble buildings, churches, commercial and cultural activities. Starting from Piazza del Gesù, example of Neapolitan Baroque architecture, the visit will include the Church of New Jesus and Santa Chiara, annexed to the homonymous complex of the charming Chiostro Maiolicato, Piazza San Domenico Maggiore where the Church of San Domenico Maggiore is located. Across the square you will reach the famous and marvellous Cappella Sansevero that houses the “Veiled Christ”, a most remarkable marble sculpture. At the end of the tour, a free visit to San Gregorio Armeno, also known as Christmas Alley, is scheduled. |

Positano & Amalfi
Positano is one of the most fascinating town of the Amalfi Coast. It is a pedestrian town (with many stairs) and its pretty pastel colored houses and flowers make it very picturesque.

Amalfi is the heart of the magnificent Amalfi Coast; it is surrounded by wonderful cliffs and coastal scenery. Amalfi is now a tourist town rich in beautiful monuments and typical local shops.

Both Positano and Amalfi are included in the UNESCO World Heritage.

Vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius is a very popular tourist attraction, best known for its eruption in AD 79 that led to the burying of the Roman city of Pompeii.
Do not expect bubbling lava lakes or anything like that. It is a moon-like landscape and volcanic gases are about as much as you should expect.

Suggestion: make sure you wear comfortable shoes and a hat to protect from the sun. Bring water with you if it is very hot.
